Although their mouth parts are strong enough to chew through and damage many different materials, their source of nutrition comes from cellulose.  Baseboards, door frames, window sills, furring strips, and roofing systems are just some of the areas in a home that are vulnerable to termite attack.

They tend to nest in areas where there is pre-existing damage.   Mainly in wood that is softened by moisture and/or fungi, but can also be found in abandoned termite galleries.
